'Another Generation, King Edward VII School and the Old Edwardians in the Second World War 1939-1945', tells the story of around one hundred and fifty boys who left school to join the armed forces during the Second World War. There were probably around a thousand boys who joined up with as many as forty percent receiving the King’s commission. The fortunes of war sent them to battlefields from Norway in 1940 to the seas off Okinawa in 1945.
Many Old Boys were keen to serve as RAF aircrew and that is where so many lost their lives fighting in the skies over Europe. This is a truly remarkable book which highlights the selflessness and courage of so many young men fighting to maintain freedom across the civilised world.
The book costs £10 with all profits going to the school. The Old Edwardians' Association are justifiably proud to be part-funding this tome in conjunction with the school.
The book was launched formally at an event at school, on October 13th 2016 attended by many Old Edwardians including Eric Allsop former Old Edwardian cricket captain and veteran of the D-Day landings. Eric has recently been awarded the ‘French Legion d'Honneur’ for his part in the landings and his subsequent role in the liberation of occupied France.
Books may be reserved and will be signed by the author John Cornwell.
Further details from either the school or via the President of the Old Edwardians' Association.
